IGCSE, O-Level, and A-Level Math Tutor for Turkish Students
Online math tutoring for Turkish students in British-system schools worldwide. Whether you’re in the UK, in a British international school in Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul, or elsewhere, I help Turkish students excel in IGCSE, O-Level, AS, A-Level, and Further Mathematics. Bilingual instruction combines deep Turkish mathematical foundation with English Cambridge and Edexcel curriculum requirements.

Who I Help in the British System
- Turkish students in the UK attending state or independent schools following GCSE, IGCSE, and A-Level curriculum
- Turkish families in international British schools in UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Kenya, Egypt, and elsewhere
- Students in Turkish private colleges that follow IGCSE/A-Level (TED, Robert College, Bahçeşehir Fen Lisesi alternatives, Koleji British sections)
- Students preparing for UK university applications (UCL, LSE, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial) who need strong A-Level math scores
IGCSE Mathematics (Grades 9-10)
IGCSE Math is the foundation exam typically taken in year 10-11 (age 14-16). There are three common levels:
- IGCSE Math Core: For students aiming for a grade C maximum. Covers basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry.
- IGCSE Math Extended: More rigorous, allows grades up to A*. Recommended for any student pursuing A-Level math.
- IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606): Extension beyond regular Extended. Covers introductory calculus, advanced trigonometry, functions. Strong preparation for A-Level.
Turkish perspective: Turkish 8-9th grade curriculum aligns well with IGCSE Extended content. Additional Math requires some new learning (introductory calculus) but builds cleanly on Turkish foundation.
A-Level Mathematics (Grades 11-12)
A-Level is a two-year program (AS in year 12, full A-Level in year 13). Typical modules:
- Pure Mathematics: Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus, sequences and series. ~2/3 of the exam.
- Mechanics: Kinematics, forces, momentum, Newton’s laws. Physics-math hybrid.
- Statistics: Probability, distributions, hypothesis testing.
For A* grades: mastering pure math is essential since it dominates. Mechanics and statistics can be optimized based on student strengths.
Further Mathematics A-Level
Further Maths is the harder A-Level option, usually taken alongside regular A-Level Math. It’s essentially required for top UK math/engineering/CS programs (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, Warwick). Topics include:
- Complex numbers and matrices
- Differential equations
- Polar coordinates
- Hyperbolic functions
- More advanced mechanics and statistics options
Turkish students with strong matematik olimpiyatı or Fen Lisesi background often find Further Maths manageable – their foundation is deeper than most British-system students.
The Turkish Advantage in British Curriculum
Turkish high school math curriculum traditionally covers more pure math at an earlier age than the British system. Topics like polinomlar, trigonometri, and logaritma appear in Turkish 9-10th grade, comparable to what A-Level introduces in year 12. This means:
- Turkish students can often advance faster through the A-Level syllabus
- They have conceptual depth that allows them to tackle harder problems earlier
- The challenge is adapting to British problem-solving style, proof requirements, and formal notation
University Admissions Math Tests (STEP, MAT, TMUA)
For Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, and Warwick math-related programs, additional entrance exams are required:
- STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper): Required by Cambridge and Warwick for math. Very challenging, long-form problems.
- MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test): Required by Oxford for math, CS, and related. Mix of multiple choice and longer problems.
- TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admissions): Required by multiple UK universities for math-related degrees.
These tests reward exactly the kind of problem-solving mindset Turkish olimpiyat training develops. I work with students aiming for top UK universities on STEP/MAT preparation alongside A-Level.
How Lessons Work
- Bilingual teaching: Concepts in Turkish for deep understanding, then British mathematical notation, terminology, and exam style layered on.
- Past papers focus: Heavy practice with official Cambridge (CIE) and Edexcel past papers, which are the most reliable preparation resource.
- Examiner report study: We study what examiners look for and common mistakes to avoid.
- Online interactive: Zoom + digital whiteboard. Session recordings available.
Preparation Timelines
- IGCSE Math (from scratch): 8-12 months regular lessons
- IGCSE Math (targeted improvement): 3-6 months to move from B/C to A*
- A-Level Math (full support): Two years aligned with school
- A-Level Math (top-up for A*): 6-8 months focused on weak topics and past papers
- Further Maths: Alongside regular A-Level, 1.5-2 years
- STEP/MAT preparation: 3-6 months focused sessions in year 13
Common Questions
My child is in a British school in Turkey – is this for us?
Absolutely. Students at TED Istanbul, Robert College, British International School Istanbul, and other British-system schools in Turkey benefit significantly from a Turkish-speaking tutor who also understands IGCSE/A-Level.
What exam board should we follow?
Follow whichever your school uses (usually Cambridge CIE or Edexcel). I support both. If you’re self-studying, Cambridge IGCSE is generally more widely recognized internationally.
Can you help with predicted grades for UCAS?
I don’t provide predicted grades (that’s your school’s role), but I help ensure your actual exam performance matches or exceeds predictions.
